BEYOND THE STIGMA: PARENTING AND MENTAL HEALTH

A 2-HOUR ONLINE WORKSHOP. FOR PARENTS AND GUARDIANS.

THURSDAY 8TH JUNE 2023. 8.00PM-10.00PM. £20 PER PARTICIPANT

To raise happy and healthy children who are ready to learn and positively contribute to society requires parents who are conscious of their own wellbeing. What is often less recognised within society is the additional need to address the wellbeing and mental health of the adults themselves, the relationships they have with each other as a couple and their different needs. Parents in this fast paced society are expected to do it ALL!

Many parents struggle to cope with the pressure to balance their parenting role with all their other roles. This can cause anxiety and stress which can often lead to mental health problems in many parents. According to the Royal College of Psychiatrists (2016) Approximately 68% of women and 57% of men with mental health problems are parents. A 2013-2014 study by the National Childbirth Trust (2015) found that 38% of first-time fathers are concerned about their mental health and around 10% of all new fathers worldwide experience postnatal depression. (Paulson, J.F., & Bazemore, S.D. 2010)
